Usually not, but you will not get in trouble for asking them. You will however get into big trouble if she moves in and they find out, and you can bet a neighbor will turn you in

Linda asks…

Do HUD foreclosed homes sell at a discount?

Because they say they price it at market value. Are people simply bidding below that?

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

HUD homes are priced to sell within 90 days. HUD doesn’t like to have a large inventory. The appraisers are sent out to see whats wrong with them and what it would cost to fix them. They deduct that from the market value and then figure a 90 day distressed sale price. Some of these are in the best neighborhoods too. Just go to this HUD website and look for the state you want to buy one in. You can look every Friday because that’s the day they post the new listings. If a house doesn’t sell fast, they lower the price. Http://www.hud.gov/homes/index.cfm

BTW you can bid whatever you want to. A HUD Realtor will assist you in making a bid. If HUD doesn’t accept your bid, wait a while and make it again.
