You lease will be invalidated as soon as the bank takes it in March. You have 14-30 days to vacate, depending on your state.

Your Questions About Foreclosures

Nancy asks…

As a tenant how can I find out if the house I am renting is in foreclosure?

The house is in Los Angeles County. We have reason to believe that the house we are renting may be in or facing foreclosure. This is not a subject the owner will discuss with us. Other than going to the expense of an attorney, is there some way for us to find this information? Thank you

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

An attorney cannot find out for you either. Financial arrangements between owners and their mortgage lenders are strictly confidential. Once an actual foreclosure notice is filed with the county, you can then find out, since such notices are public information. Until then, you can’t find out.

Paul asks…

How Do I get information about a house owned by Residential Funding Corp?

I would like to contact the bank regarding a foreclosure but I can’t find their phone # or website.

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

Sorry but the lenders don’t have the time to talk to the general public. They will only do business through a Realtor. So find a Realtor that has experience in foreclosures. Your Realtor can research the property to see what phase it is in in the process. If it’s in the redemption period (6 months), you won’t be able to view nor buy the property. It might help you to know what the whole process is. I would Yahoo search “foreclosure process”. That way you at least know up front some information about how it works. Keep in mind, each state may have it’s own rules that govern, so you would need to know what your state does.

Your Questions About Foreclosures

Jenny asks…

Where can I find demographic information regarding housing foreclosures?

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

Hard to get it broken down as you like. You can find some regioinal lists with a web search, but for national data, you’d think that a major news web or bank association would be best source.
