How wide is the Hudson river between Battery Park City and Jersey City?

I think the part of New Jersey that is directly opposite the Battery Park City is Jersey City, right? I am interested to know the width of Hudson river at that spot, i.e. how many meters or yards?

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

Google Maps features a scale (bottom left of map) so you can measure from one point to another. When I did it, I got one mile.

However, if I remember correctly, statute miles and nautical miles are not the same so it will differ. To see if I was right, I scan the Internet and found “to connect New York to New Jersey using a vast compressed-air tunnel under the mile-wide Hudson River ” so that proves the one mile estimate correct.

Google Calc.
1 mile = 1 609.344 meters
1 mile = 1760 yards
1 mile = 5280 feet

Your Questions About Foreclosures

The Expert answers:

The plan during the Saratoga Campaign was to take control of the Hudson River. This would have connected British Canada with British-occupied New York City, thus cutting off New England (the “problem area”) from the rest of the colonies. British military strategists believed that this would paralyze the American Revolution.
